What’s new on the 2027 GMC Terrain?

Compact SUVs are asked to handle a lot: school runs, highway commutes and weekend outings. The 2027 GMC Terrain approaches that job with five seats, up to 1,798 litres of cargo room and all-wheel drive on every Canadian trim. It carries forward the truck-inspired design GMC launched with the 2025 Terrain, along with a 15-inch diagonal touchscreen as standard equipment. Power comes from a 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, matched to an 8-speed automatic. For drivers crossing the Golden Ears Bridge or heading east on the Lougheed Highway, standard Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning are welcome additions. Three trims are available, each with its own character: the Elevation, the AT4 and the Denali. The 2027 Terrain is available now at Maple Ridge Chevrolet Buick GMC in Pitt Meadows, and our team is ready to show you how the trims differ.

Performace

The 2027 Terrain uses one powertrain across the lineup: a 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Official EnerGuide estimates are 9.9 L/100 km in city driving for every trim, and 8.5 L/100 km on the highway for the Elevation. The AT4 and Denali are rated at 8.9 L/100 km on the highway. Automatic Stop/Start is standard, shutting the engine off during stops in traffic heading toward Coquitlam. The fuel tank holds 59 litres.

Towing & Capability

All-wheel drive is standard on every trim, adding traction on wet pavement and on the rural roads around Pitt Lake. A Drive Mode Selector and Hill Descent Control are standard as well. Towing capacity reaches 680 kg (1,500 lbs) with the Trailering Package, which is standard on the AT4 and Denali and available on the Elevation, for light-duty jobs like a small trailer of landscaping supplies. The AT4 also adds a stamped-steel front skid plate and 166 mm of ground clearance, while the Elevation sits at 146 mm. MacPherson struts up front and a 4-link rear suspension are common to all trims.

Technology

Phone integration is straightforward with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, both standard for compatible phones on the 15-inch display. Google built-in compatibility, 5G vehicle connectivity and Wi-Fi hotspot capability are also standard, as are SiriusXM with 360L on a trial subscription, OnStar Basics and a 6-speaker audio system. Keyless Open and Start lets you unlock and start the Terrain with the key fob in your pocket or bag. Wireless phone charging, Universal Home Remote and the AutoSense power liftgate are standard on the AT4 and Denali and available on the Elevation.

Parking aids include Rear Park Assist on every trim, plus an HD Rear Vision Camera on the Elevation and AT4. The Denali upgrades to HD Surround Vision, a Rear Camera Mirror with washer and the Surround Video Recorder, all available on the other trims through Technology Package II. On the road, every Terrain includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking. Blind Zone Steering Assist, Side Bicyclist Alert and Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking add protection in busy areas, and Teen Driver is standard.

Exterior

The Terrain’s front end draws from GMC’s larger trucks, with a wide grille that gives it a recognizable family look. LED headlamps and LED tail lamps are standard, and the AT4 and Denali add uplevel lamps with animated walk-up and departure lighting. Heated power mirrors, deep-tinted rear glass and IntelliBeam automatic high beams are standard on all three trims. Rainsense automatic wipers and heated wiper park, standard on the AT4 and Denali and available on the Elevation, are practical features for a region that sees plenty of rainy days. Body-colour door handles appear on the Elevation and AT4, while the Denali gets a chrome strip.

In size, the Terrain measures 4,597 mm in length and 1,892 mm in width, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase that keeps it manageable in busy shopping-centre lots. The Elevation rides on 17-inch Grazen metallic machined-face wheels, with 19-inch Gloss Black and Technical Grey designs available. The AT4 uses 17-inch Dark Android wheels with all-terrain tires, and the Denali gets 19-inch Midnight Silver wheels as standard. Roof-mounted side rails, standard on the AT4 and Denali, provide a base for carrying bikes and gear on trips to Golden Ears Provincial Park, with cross rails available through the Hit the Road Package.

Interior

The Terrain’s interior design stretches long lines across the dashboard and doors, with chrome accents on the instrument panel, upper doors and console armrest. Controls centre on the 15-inch diagonal touchscreen and a Driver Information Centre. The Elevation comes with Premium Cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver seat and single-zone automatic climate control; available upgrades include an 8-way power driver seat, dual-zone climate control and After Dark CoreTec seating. The AT4 and Denali include dual-zone automatic climate control and a cabin humidity sensor as standard. Two front USB ports provide one Type-A and one Type-C connection.

The second row offers 1,008 mm of legroom and 1,415 mm of shoulder room, with rear air vents, a rear centre armrest and adjustable centre headrests. Cargo room measures 844 litres behind the rear seats and 1,798 litres behind the front row. Options like a retractable cargo shade, horizontal and vertical cargo nets and an all-weather cargo mat help organize groceries and sports equipment. Rear Seat Reminder is standard, and the Denali adds heated rear outboard seats. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel come on every trim, along with Remote Start.

Versions

The Elevation is the most configurable Terrain, with options that include the Elevation Premium Package, Convenience Packages II and III, Technology Package II, the Memory Package and the Black Edition appearance package. The AT4 targets drivers who want a more rugged look and light off-road equipment, adding all-terrain tires, a skid plate, uplevel LED lighting and a standard Trailering Package. The Denali includes a long list of features as standard, including leather-appointed seating, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof and the full Technology Package II camera suite. All three share the same engine and all-wheel-drive system, so the decision comes down to comfort, style and features.
